EditAttrib
The attribute editor in Structured FrameMaker is clumsier than it needs to be. EditAttrib is a simple replacement that preserves the functionality and improves the usability.
To install, create a new directory under the FrameMaker plugins directory and copy the file there. For example, if FrameMaker is installed in
C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker7.2\
then copy EditAttrib.dll to a new directory named
C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker7.2\fminit\Plugins\EditAttrib
When you restart FrameMaker, the plugin installs itself automatically. To run it, place the insertion point in an element that has attributes, and press CTRL+7, the default shortcut for the FrameMaker attribute editor.
Download EditAttrib.dll (86 Kbytes).
It has been tested with FrameMaker 7.0 for Windows.
EditAttrib is open source
It is released under the GNU Public License. Download a zip file containing the source code, license, and other support files. You will need to compile it as a FrameMaker FDK client. Details are available from Adobe Systems.
Feedback
If you try it, please let us know how it works. That's a fair trade. You get a free FrameMaker utility, and we get your opinion about it. While you're at it, feel free to suggest ideas for other FrameMaker utilities.
We will never use your email address for any sort of mass mailing, nor will we supply it to anybody else.
